Question:51 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider introducing an environmental labelling programme to facilitate the consumer in protecting the environment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Eco-Labelling.
I refer to the reply to Question No. 81 of 6 February 1991 where I made clear my support for the concept of eco-labelling. The Environmental Protection Agency Bill, 1990, contains enabling powers for such a scheme.
A proposal for a Community wide eco-labelling scheme is before the EC Environment Council at present and final agreement on it should be reached before the end of the year.
