73 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a breakdown on a month by month basis of the sales numbers of new motor vehicles in 1991 compared to 1990 and the approximate revenue returns on same.

Notes
1. These figures cover commercial as well as private vehicles.
2. The figures for numbers of new vehicles relate to first-time registrations, which are readily available up to November 1991, rather than actual sales, which are not.

3. Revenue receipts consist of excise duty and VAT. The excise duty receipts for each month represent payments made in respect of vehicles cleared from bond in the previous month. VAT receipts have been estimated as VAT returns are not completed in a manner which would enable the yield from particular items to be identified.
