Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fluoride Levels.

John Gormley

Question:

211 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children the levels of fluoride in blood and urine which are deemed safe; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23161/99]

Human urinary fluoride levels depend on, and are approximately equivalent numerically to, drinking (tap) water levels. This relationship has been repeatedly confirmed scientifically.

Average blood plasma fluoride levels in humans is in the range of 0.14 to 0.19ppm for people drinking water with less than 2.5ppm fluoride.
The level of fluoride arising in blood and urine when fluoridating water is at 1ppm completely safe for human health.
