Vol. 519 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Noel Ahern

Question:

138 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will clarify the situation with regard to the renewal of driving licences for persons over 70 whose cost per year works out at £12 compared to £2 for those under 65; and if changes in fees or duration of licences can be brought forward to make the system fairer for those aged over 70. [13228/00]

Arising from a review of the overall driving licence fee arrangements by my Department, it is proposed to introduce more equitable licence fee arrangements for persons aged more than 70 years. Amending legislation is required to implement this change. The necessary amendment is being provided for in the Local Government Bill, 2000 which was published this week.
