Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Denis Naughten

Question:

371 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 392 of 15 April 2003, when he envisages the completion of the research and consultation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17479/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the situation regarding Garda divisional boundaries has not changed since the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 392 of 15 April 2003. Research and consultation on aligning Garda divisions is continuing and to date no decision has been taken by the Garda Síochána to recommend changes to existing boundaries.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

372 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a review of the security needs of the Bluebell, Dublin 12 area in general and in the vicinity of the school in particular will be carried out; and if additional Garda resources will be made available to meet the concerns of residents. [17493/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the allocation of resources, including personnel, that the Bluebell area of Dublin 12 is policed twenty four hours daily by the gardaí from Kilmainham Station.

The Garda units patrolling this area consist of uniformed and detective gardaí who are assisted by the different specialist units which include the divisional crime task force, the special resource unit, the drugs unit and a dedicated community policing unit. One community policing Garda is assigned to the area on a full time basis with a view to ensuring that the concerns of the residents are met. Resources from the recently established Garda mountain bike unit are also concentrating on the area. Resources and policing strategies for the Bluebell area are reviewed by the superintendent at Kevin Street Station on a continuous basis.
