98. Deputy Peter Burke asked the Minister for Education and Skills to examine the former Mullingar Army site with a view to using same for institutional educational purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18871/16]

Minister for Education and Skills

An inspection of the Mullingar Army Barracks site was carried out by Professional and Technical staff of my Department's School Planning and Building Unit in 2012 with a view to determining its suitability for school accommodation. The site and existing accommodation at the Barracks were found to present technical difficulties such that the development of the site for school use did not represent value for money in the context of other available options.
