I propose to take Questions Nos. 66 and 88 together.

As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has responsibility for the planning and development of public transport infrastructure in our cities, including BusConnects Cork.

Noting the NTA's responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the NTA for a direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Order 51.
I am writing to you concerning the matter you raised in Parliamentary Question Nos. 66 & 88 on 19 January last to the Minister for Transport which has been referred to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for reply. The Cork Northern Distributor Road is included in the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy published in 2020. Cork City Council have now renamed the scheme as the “Cork Northern Distributor Multi-Modal Route” (CNDMR). In line with the Public Spending Code, Cork City Council has prepared a Strategic Assessment Report in respect of this project. The NTA has been asked to review this report on behalf of the Department of Transport. During December last, we provided feedback to the Council on the Strategic Assessment Report for the CNDMR, requiring a small amount of additional information to be provided. Following receipt of that further information, we anticipate being in a position shortly thereafter to conclude the determination of the Strategic Assessment Report. In respect of your Parliamentary Questions relating to traffic concerns and the road layouts in Cork City, this is primarily a matter for the Local Authority. As such, I would suggest contacting Cork City Council in respect of the query relating to road layouts in Cork City I trust that the above information is of assistance.
