72. Deputy Darren O'Rourke asked the Minister for Transport if he will provide a 2022 end-of year-report on the Connecting Ireland plan; the funding that was allocated and spent and the services that have been delivered; the funding that is allocated for 2023; the services that are expected to be delivered in 2023; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Transport

As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally. The NTA also has national responsibility for integrated local and rural transport, including delivering the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan.

In light of the NTA's responsibilities for the rollout of services under the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, I have referred your question to the NTA for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Order 51.

I am writing to you concerning the matter you raised in Parliamentary Question No. 72 of 19 January last which has been referred to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for reply.

The Authority will be publishing during Q1 of 2023 an end-of-year report for Phase 1 2022 implementation of service improvements emanating from the work of Connecting Ireland. The following provides a high-level summary of implementation activity in 2022:

CI Phase 1 2022

- 38 new and enhanced services launched

- €3.88m actual expenditure of €5.6m allocated by Department of Transport in Budget 2022

Phase 2 of Connecting Ireland implementation planned for 2023 is set out below:

CI Phase 2 2023

- 69 new and enhanced services proposed (of which 2 have already been implemented on 1 and 16 January 2023 respectively)

- Draft budget allocated by Department of Transport for new and enhanced services is €10m (to also include ancillary services)
