As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to Greenways. The planning, design and construction of individual Greenways is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. In this context, TII is best placed to advise you on the status of this project. Noting the above position, I have referred your question to TII for a direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.
A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Order 51.
I refer to your recent parliamentary question, Ref. No. 1873/23, to Mr Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Transport. The position in relation to your enquiry is as follows.
Kerry County Council is continuing to progress the statutory requirements to acquire the necessary lands for the greenway. Engagement with landowners in relation to accommodation works is ongoing. The first of a suite of advance works packages commenced in December 2022, which will be delivered by a combination of direct labour and external contractors. Advance works will include site clearance, site investigation, fencing, access roads and retaining wall construction.
Works currently underway include the establishment of site compounds and the completion of pre-construction surveys. A tender for the appointment of technical advisors for the enabling, procurement and construction phases is underway. The estimated date for completion of the entire scheme is Quarter 4, 2025.
I hope that this information is of assistance to you.
