I have contacted the Garda authorities for the information sought by the Deputy, regrettably this information was not available in time. I will write again directly to the Deputy once the information is to hand.
The following deferred reply was received under Standing Order 51.
I refer to Parliamentary Question No. 1228 of 11 September 2023 where you asked: ‘if Santry Garda station is to be included in the Garda Capital Investment Plan 2022 – 2030.’
As you will recall, I sought the information from the Garda authorities and undertook to contact you again once the information was to hand. I apologise for the considerable delay in responding to you.
As you may be aware, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of Garda business under Section 26 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (as amended), which includes management of the Garda Estate and all operational policing decisions. As Minister I play no role in these independent functions.
Additionally, works on the Garda Estate are progressed by the Office of Public Works (OPW), working in close cooperation with Garda management.
I am advised by Garda authorities are working to develop a plan to upgrade elements of the station on a phased basis, to provide enhanced facilities for the station party and members of the public.
As the development of a plan to upgrade Santry Garda Station is ongoing, I trust you can appreciate that it is not yet possible to provide full details of future works at the Station or the timelines associated with same.
