The National Cyber Security Strategy 2019-2024 is a whole-of-Government strategy to address the growing threat of cyber security incidents, to ensure Ireland can benefit fully from the digital transformation.
The Mid Term Review (MTR) was published on the 28th of June 2023 and sets out 18 new strategic actions to be implemented within the lifetime of the strategy. Key initiatives from the MTR include Government commitment to continue investment in building the capacity of our National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) particularly in its ability to monitor and respond to cyber security incidents and developing threats in the State such as Ransomware.
Both the National Cyber Security Strategy 2019-2024 and the Mid-Term Review can be viewed on my Department's website: www.gov.ie/en/publication/8994a-national-cyber-security-strategy/
The non-pay budget allocation for the NCSC has increased to €10.7M in 2024, from €5.1M in 2022, to deliver on the measures outlined under the National Cyber Security Strategy 2019-2024. My Department cannot provide or calculate the expenditure resulting from measures taken by other Government Departments and Public Sector Bodies to improve their Cyber Security.
Every organisation is responsible for their own IT infrastructure, and therefore are responsible for risk mitigation as it relates to their own systems and processes.
