The Social Welfare Appeals Office is an Office of the Department of Social Protection which is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements. Appeals Officers are independent in their decision making functions.

I am advised by the Social Welfare Appeals Office that the average processing times for social welfare appeals in relation to Disability Allowance, Invalidity Pension and Carer's Allowance applications in 2022, 2023 and up to 31st August in 2024 are as follows:

Year

2022

2023

2024 (up to 31/8/24)

Invalidity Pension

18.6 weeks

14.4 weeks

16.9 weeks

Carer’s Allowance

12.7 weeks

16.6 weeks

22.6 weeks

Disability Allowance

13.7 weeks

16.1 weeks

19.2 weeks

I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
