Deputy Matt Shanahan asked the Minister for Health his views on whether it is fair that an applicant for the long-term illness scheme diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (initially incorrectly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes through no fault of their own) was deemed ineligible for consideration under the scheme as they were not diagnosed with type 1 ‘from the outset’ (details supplied); if he will commit to having his Department thoroughly review the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
