As the Deputy may be aware, commissions of investigation are carried out pursuant to the Commissions of Investigation Act 2004. That Act provides for a Commission to be established by Government Order. Before making the Order, a draft must be laid before each House and a resolution approving the draft passed by both Houses.

The following table sets out the information requested by the Deputy in relation to commissions of investigation established under the Act.

These figures, provided by the Central Statistics Office, refer to imports and exports under combined nomenclature (CN) code 27030000 - Peat, including peat litter, whether or not agglomerated.

This description includes all types of peat and does not differentiate between peat used for horticulture or that used for heating. This description also includes briquettes. Peat agglomerates also includes peat substrates where peat is mixed with other materials such as fertilizer, perlite, sand, lime, wood fibre, bark. By way of example a peat reduced substrate mix of 30% Wood Fibre, 30% Bark & 40% Peat is still classed under the CN code 27030000.

The numbers of data breaches recorded by my Department, since 2016, are as outlined in the table below. It should be noted that no records of data breaches were maintained before this time. The current operational procedure is that the majority of low-risk data breaches are not reported to the Data Protection Commission (DPC) in line with DPC guidance on this issue.

For operational and security reasons it is not considered appropriate to disclose specific details on the nature of data breaches experienced by my Department

My Department has multiple policies and practices in place to ensure compliance with GDPR and all Data Protection legislation. Ongoing training and awareness programmes take place to ensure the Department maintains a high standard of compliance.

My department provides public information on a variety of schemes, services and policies. This includes both traditional and online advertising and the publication of Statutory Notices that are required to comply with various National and EU legislative requirements. Outlined below in a table is a breakdown of expenditure on both traditional and online advertising, including on social media, by year for the period requested. This includes expenditure related to farm safety awareness campaigns in 2022 and 2023 and the promotion of the new Forestry Scheme in 2023.
