Questions (149)

John Brady

Question:

149. Deputy John Brady asked the Minister for Transport if, from 2026 onwards, money for the current fare reduction will need to come from 'to be allocated' or if this allocation is in the expenditure ceilings for his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [42138/24]

As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. However, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has responsibility for the regulation of fares charged to passengers in respect of public transport services provided under public service obligation (PSO) contracts.

The funding allocation for PSO public transport services for 2026 will be subject to the annual Budgetary process next year, and therefore the allocations for 2026 are yet to be determined in the context of the future estimates process.
