Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí asked the Minister for Health the reason a medication (details supplied) is excluded from the drugs payment scheme, as it is a necessary medication for people diagnosed with bipolar disorder to treat depressive episodes; whether its inclusion in the scheme will be considered; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for decisions on the pricing and reimbursement of medicines and devices; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
