Deputy Barry Ward asked the Minister for Transport the position regarding any research or legal advice provided to him regarding proposals to amend existing inspection procedures at Shannon Airport for any planes that may be carrying military goods, destined for Israel as outlined in an article (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. The examination by my officials of the legislation governing the carriage of munitions of war on civil aircraft is ongoing. It is important to note that the provisions of the legislation apply irrespective of the destination of the aircraft in question.

I expect to be briefed by my officials on these matters in due course.
