Dáil Éireann Debate, Wednesday - 18 June 2025
183. Deputy Darren O'Rourke asked the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht when he will make a decision in relation to a recommendation by the Placenames Committee (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32955/25]
View answerThe official Irish language version of the placename for the town referred to by the Deputy is the subject of a comprehensive report that I have received from An Coiste Logainmneacha – the statutory committee of experts appointed to advise me on Irish language placenames. This report has been prepared following representations made to my Department initially from the local Tidy Towns group.
I am currently considering the issues concerned and intend to make a decision in the near future on whether any change needs to be made to the current official placename.
