In terms of the commitment in the Programme for Government which states "Develop a skin cancer awareness campaign" this is currently being addressed through Action 1.4 in the National Skin Cancer Prevention Plan 2023-2026, with the development of the SunSmart campaign by the National Cancer Control Programme in the HSE, and Healthy Ireland.

This campaign has been running since 2021, and promotes targeted key messages to vulnerable groups, such as parents of young children, adolescents, outdoor workers, those who pursue outdoor sport and leisure activities, and sunbed users.

In advance of the conclusion of the current National Skin Cancer Prevention Plan, the Department will also consider the development of a successor and how this will be used to incorporate the commitments in the Programme for Government.
