225. Deputy Ciarán Ahern asked the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment the steps he will take to ensure that the EU’s ‘simplification’ process as it applies to the ETS2 directive and social climate fund is conducted transparently and that the SCF will target vulnerable households explicitly, and not weaken the ETS2 directive obligations on member states; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment

There is currently no proposal from the European Commission to simplify the Emissions Trading System 2 (ETS2) or the Social Climate Fund. Any legislative proposal from the Commission will be considered carefully by both the European Council and the European Parliament. Ireland fully supports the ETS2 and the Social Climate Fund as legislated for.
