Deputy Eoin Hayes asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence the details of the vacant buildings owned by his Department or by agencies under the remit of his Department in Dublin 2, 4, 6, and 6W, including, the address and size in square meters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The nature of the details requested are not readily available. I am advised that my officials are collating same and I will provide same directly to the Deputy as soon as possible.

The following deferred reply was received under standing orders.

I refer to the below mentioned Parliamentary Question from 21st October 2025 which was deferred:

"To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence the details of the vacant buildings owned by his Department or by agencies under the remit of his Department in Dublin 2, 4, 6, and 6W, including, the address and size in square meters; and if he will make a statement on the matter."

My Department has been engaged on an ongoing programme of barracks consolidation since 1998 and the entire property portfolio is under continual review.

The Defence Forces building stock covers a diverse range of building types, which are managed by the military authorities and as such this information was not readily available centrally within my Department.

The Defence Forces and my officials have now compiled the list below of unused and unoccupied buildings under the stewardship of my Department in Dublin 2, 4, 6, and 6W. The properties listed are former married quarters and there are plans to overhaul the condition of the vacant housing stock, in so far as possible, to increase the provision of accommodation for serving personnel.

The Deputy may also wish to note that the Department has previously transferred properties outside of military installations to the relevant Local Authorities, as the relevant housing authorities.
