Deputy Michael Murphy asked the Minister for Transport the current assessment of the condition of the local and regional road network; the proportion of this network that is assessed as being in poor or very poor condition; the basis on which this assessment is carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is the statutory responsibility of each local authority in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the Roads Act 1993. Works on those roads are funded from local authorities' own resources supplemented by State road grants, where applicable.
The condition of the Regional and Local Roads network is recorded under the National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC) indicator R1 and is available to view in the NOAC website www.noac.ie.
