The Department of Defence and Defence Forces operate a joint planning working group which reviews planning applications likely to have a potential impact on Defence Forces infrastructure and operations. If necessary, submissions can be made to the relevant planning authority with respect to a specific development in line with operational needs and taking into account overall Government policy. The relevant branches of the Defence Forces are represented on this working group, including the Naval Service.
The planning application the Deputy refers to was reviewed in the usual manner through the appropriate channels of the above referenced working group. In accordance with accepted practice, approvals and timelines, my officials sought observations from the Defence Forces and submitted those received to the Planning Authority on 6th October 2025.
