606. Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration if the case of a person (details supplied) will be reviewed. [69316/25]
View answerAs the Deputy will be aware, it is not the practice to comment publicly on individual cases.
However, I can assure the Deputy that it is my policy to seek the removal of individuals from this State whose presence here is not conducive to the common good. When an EU citizen is convicted of a serious crime, they can be removed from Ireland in accordance with Directive 2004/38/EC, the “Free Movement Directive”.
Removal orders can be made on the grounds that an individual’s personal conduct represents a genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat affecting one of the fundamental interests of society. Re-entry bans of up to 10 years can be applied to prevent their return to Ireland. Each case involves a detailed consideration to ensure the removal is appropriate and proportionate to the circumstances of the case.
I can advise you that such removals are actively pursued by my Department and An Garda Síochána, who work closely to ensure high risk persons are prioritised and are removed from Ireland where possible.
