Skillnet Ireland is a valued and strategic partner in advancing workforce development and promoting lifelong learning across the country. Its role has grown significantly in recent years. Skillnet Ireland plays a key role in shaping national skills policy and supporting sectors in adapting to challenges such as digitalisation, climate action, and new technologies. For example, Skillnet Ireland is an active member of the High-Level Skills Implementation Group, which brings together representatives from Government Departments and Agencies under the chairmanship of my Department. This forum provides critical insights and brings expertise to the National Skills Council, ensuring that policy decisions are informed by the needs of enterprise and the workforce. These efforts not only benefit businesses and the workforce but also enhances productivity and sustains Ireland’s reputation as a high-performing economy.

My Department provides financial support to Skillnet Ireland through the National Training Fund. Core funding for Skillnet Ireland has grown by 56.5%, from €32.9 million in 2020 to €51.5 million in 2025. This reflects the Government’s strong commitment to enterprise-led workforce development. In 2026, core funding to Skillnet Ireland will remain at 2025 levels.
