178. Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if she has spoken formally with the US Ambassador to Ireland since her appointment as Minister; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [72400/25]
View answerI have not yet had the opportunity to speak to the US Ambassador since taking up duty as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade. I look forward to doing so in the near future.
My predecessor as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Tánaiste Simon Harris T.D., had the opportunity to speak with and meet Ambassador Walsh on a number of occasions.
Developing Ireland's rich political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people links with the United States is a priority for me, just as it is for this Government. I look forward to discussing that with the Ambassador, and to launching a new strategy for Ireland's relationship with the United States in the new year.
