Deputy Michael Cahill asked the Minister for Transport if consideration will be given to the fact that the first section of the South Kerry Greenway is scheduled to open on 19 December 2025 and Glenbeigh village is not Greenway ready; if he will expedite the works including traffic calming measures, resurface road, new footpaths, pedestrian crossing, public lighting, carparking and so on; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerAs Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to Greenways. There has a significant amount of investment for Greenway schemes in County Kerry with €8,250,000 allocated in 2025.
In line with Section 32 (2) of the Roads Act 1993, the planning, design, and construction of individual Greenways is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. Investment in Greenway and National Roads Active Travel projects is also subject to the requirements of the Infrastructure Guidelines and necessary statutory approvals.
