The fees to be paid by an applicant for a certificate of naturalisation are governed by the provisions of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 569 of 2011).

Currently, there is an application fee of €175 and a certification fee of €950 following a positive decision being reached on the naturalisation application.

A reduced certification fee of €200 applies in the case of an application made on behalf of a minor or in certain cases where the application is made by a widow, widower, or surviving civil partner of an Irish citizen.

The State has not increased the fees for naturalisation applications since 2011.

Last month Minister O'Callaghan and I secured government approval to introduce new policies and legislative changes to strengthen Ireland’s migration and asylum system to ensure it is rules-based, efficient and more aligned with EU Member States. As part of this work naturalisation fees will be reviewed in the context of ongoing work to modernise the system and respond to the increased volume of applications being received.
