Written answers

In the immediate aftermath of Storm Bram, both the Defence Forces and Civil Defence were ready for activation if called upon. Civil Defence Officers across the State participated in local authority Severe Weather Assessment Teams (SWAT) meetings. In addition, many Volunteers were readied but not subsequently activated by their local authority. Donegal Civil Defence did deploy sandbags to the homes of elderly residents in Donegal Town in order to mitigate the risk of flooding in low lying areas.

Civil Defence Units across the State also recently completed a Rest Centre exercise, to ensure effective response if activated for severe weather/other evacuation.
