View answerThe Commemorations Unit in my Department has responsibility for coordinating commemorative programming to ensure that key historical events, themes and personalities are remembered appropriately.
The State has adopted a collaborative and partnership approach to commemorations, which supports key stakeholders and project partners to develop their commemorative initiatives using the framework of commemorations which is, in turn, based on key principles including respectful remembrance, historical authenticity and accessibility.
The Department recognises that RTÉ itself is leading in respect of these centenaries and that they are best based placed to develop and deliver appropriate plans. This will be with support as appropriate from my Department.
My Department has been in contact with RTÉ and offered assistance and guidance including the sharing of the State’s principles of commemorations. RTÉ has been invited to present to the Commemorations Advisory Committee which provides independent and expert advice to the State and key stakeholders on commemorative matters. We look forward to this presentation and I am sure the expert committee will provide helpful and constructive advice and guidance as required.
