Deputy Roderic O'Gorman asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide an update on all European Commission infringement proceedings currently under way relating to the functions of his Department; the compliance measures and the already paid or expected fines relating to each enforcement action; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In relation to INFR2013/2056 - Application of Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste water treatment, the European Commission considers that efforts by the Irish authorities have, to date, been insufficient to comply with the first judgment and is therefore referring Ireland to the Court of Justice of the European Union, with a request to impose financial sanctions.
