Under the Climate Action Plan 2024, the target for installed micro-generation capacity ( 50 kW) was expanded to 1.6 GW by 2030.
The Microgeneration Support Scheme (MSS) was approved by Government on 21 December 2021, to support Ireland’s ambitious targets for micro-generation installations, under the Climate Action Plan. The MSS provides supports to both domestic and non-domestic applicants, in the form of grants for solar PV installations, up to a maximum of €1,800 for household installations. These grants are available through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
These applicants are also eligible to avail of the Clean Export Guarantee (CEG) tariff allowing them to receive payment from their electricity supplier for excess renewable electricity they export to the grid, reflective of the market value of the electricity. My Department is aware of CEG tariffs ranging from 15c/kWh up to 32c/kWh.
Since 2021, the MSS has supported installation of solar PV for over 90,000 homes with installed solar capacity of 554.89 MW.
