Officers who are “acting up” to a higher grade are paid an additional allowance in respect of the higher duties. As standard, Higher Duty allowance is paid once 84 days of acting up have passed. The payment of allowances is managed on behalf of the Department by the National Shared Service Office (NSSO).

From 1st September 2025 to date, there have been fifteen officers at acting Assistant Principal (AP) grade. Two officers have since ceased higher duties. Ten officers have received the allowance associated with the higher duties, and five have not yet received the allowance. These five officers have not yet reached the 85-day threshold for payment.
