I propose to take Questions Nos. 471 and 473 together.
The information requested by the Deputy could not be collated in the time available. I have instructed my officials to compile the information and I will arrange to have same forwarded when available.
The following deferred reply was received under Standing Orders.
I refer to the above referenced Parliamentary Question from 13th January 2026, in which you sought information regarding the top ten projects completed on time and within budget by my Department within the last three years.
While it was not possible to provide the requested information to you within the given timeframe, I am now in a position to provide same.
The Defence Forces Infrastructure Development Plan (IDP) sets out a programme of project delivery for the years 2023 to 2027. The Programme reflects the complex environment in which the Defence Forces operate and the corresponding need for appropriate infrastructure to provide for accommodation and training of personnel, as well as the maintenance and storage of equipment. The Plan is iterative in nature thus ensuring that it remains relevant and that investment is targeted where most needed.
There has been a consistent commitment to capital works development and the improvement of military installations and barracks across the country. The amount of funding given towards such developments has increased significantly year-on-year. €37m was allocated in 2021, in 2022 this rose to €45m, and again in 2023 there was another increase to funding with €55m. In 2024 the allocation was €56m and for last year, 2025, the department allocated funding of €62.5m. For the coming year, a total of €69.5m has been allocated under the Capital element of the Defence Forces Built Infrastructure Programme. In addition there is a programme of ongoing works to ensure the upkeep and repair of buildings and facilities generally for Defence Forces personnel. These works are treated as current expenditure under the Programme and the sum allocated for 2026 is €13.5m. This level of investment, totalling €83m for 2026 demonstrates the continued commitment to ensuring the development of our military infrastructure.
The nature of large scale infrastructure development does not easily align with any single calendar year, however the Deputy will note the following significant projects which have been successfully delivered since 2023. I am further pleased to advise that all of these projects were completed on-time and on-budget.
