My Department is engaged in the whole-of-government preparations for the delivery of a successful Irish Presidency on the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026, led by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Our priorities for Transport are continuing to be developed, and will align with the thematic priorities for the Irish Presidency as a whole. Transport is critical to Europe's competitiveness. The sector can also make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation agenda internationally. Safety, security and resilience are also areas where the EU's transport agenda can deliver for all of its citizens. Ireland’s priorities and overall policy programme for the Presidency will be finalised and published in June 2026.
