As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally and for the scheduling and timetabling of these services in conjunction with the relevant transport operators.
I understand that the disruption to public transport services caused by severe weather events can inconvenience, and unclear communications can cause frustration and stress to passengers. However, the dynamic and evolving nature of these events poses a significant challenge to operators across the board. I would like to emphasise that the NTA and our operators work very hard to make the most up to date information available to passengers and to ensure passengers have an awareness of dangerous conditions. Passenger safety is of the utmost importance and is always given the highest priority during severe weather events.
In light of the NTA's responsibility in this area, I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the NTA for further reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
