The prospect of an American President's Trail is being examined as part of the America250 Programme which is a collaboration between my Department and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. One of the aims of this programme is to acknowledge the significant role of Irish emigrants and those of Irish descendent in the formation of the United States of America.

The American President’s Trail could contribute to the programme by highlighting the numerous American Presidents, many of which have engaging and noteworthy stories, that have their ancestral roots in communities around the island of Ireland.

The Department has had positive engagement with the Department of Communities in Northern Ireland who are essential partners due to the all-island nature of the trail. Officials from both Departments are scheduled to meet again later this month to share updates with the hope of progressing plans for the development.

We have also had initial positive responses from our relevant local authorities. We look forward to continuing our positive working relationships with these key stakeholders which has been so successful in the delivery of meaningful commemorative programming to date.

Officials from my Department will contact the Deputy in the coming days to discuss this initiative and its development further.
