The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) supports outdoor recreational infrastructure in countryside areas across Ireland and funds projects such as walkways, cycleways, blueways, mountain access routes and bridleways.

Since 2020, 1,358 projects have been approved under the scheme with grant funding of €85.5 million. This includes 285 projects approved in 2025 with funding of over €25 million. Details of all the successful projects approved since 2016 under ORIS are available on my Department’s website at the following link: www.gov.ie/en/department-of-rural-and-community-development-and-the-gaeltacht/collections/outdoor-recreation-infrastructure-scheme-funding-allocations/

In 2025, some 180 projects that had been allocated total funding of over €16 million were fully completed and drew down their final funding amounts.

I expect to announce the next iteration of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme in the coming months.
