The provision of library services including buildings is primarily a matter for local authorities in their capacity as library authorities, under the Local Government Act 2001. Under the Libraries Capital Programme 2023-2027, my Department is investing €22.6m in 11 library infrastructure projects and a further €2.6m in 12 next-generation mobile libraries. This programme is currently fully committed. My Department will be in contact with local authorities in respect of future calls under the Libraries Capital Programme in due course.
