It is a central priority for me that Ireland’s immigration system is robust and rules based. The enforcement aspects of our laws, including deportation orders, are an essential requirement for the system to work effectively and to ensure that there is confidence in the application of our legislation in this area.

Deportation orders may be revoked or amended. A deportation order remains in effect unless it has been revoked and people subject to them remain legally obliged to comply with any reporting requirements placed on them by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB), are residing illegally in the State and have no right to work.

It is open to individuals to bring the attention of my Department to new information or changes in their circumstances that they believe may warrant examination in this regard. Such information will be considered by my Department, though it is important to note that such ongoing consideration will not in itself act to stop the effecting of a Deportation Order. Many of the cases that are considered are in respect of people who have already been removed from the jurisdiction.

I will provide the full figures requested for the past ten years to the Deputy in writing.
