Questions (327)

Claire Kerrane

Question:

327. Deputy Claire Kerrane asked the Minister for Transport if he will extend criteria of the disabled person's parking card scheme (blue badge) for people with autism, who despite being mobile, are in some cases at risk, rather than excluding them when they need this support, particularly parents with children with autism, who struggle in car parks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that, at present, the disabled parking permit is available to people whose mobility is severely restricted, whether they are drivers or passengers.

The Deputy may wish to note however, that my Department is currently undertaking an extensive review of the Disabled Parking Scheme, with a particular focus on eligibility and need.
