The Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) is a specialist bureau that investigates fraud-related crime involving complex issues of criminal law or procedure. The bureau investigates serious and complex cases of commercial fraud, cheque and payment card fraud, counterfeit currency, money laundering, computer crime and breaches of the Companies Acts and the Competition Act.

Under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, the Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána, including the GNECB.

I am advised by the Garda authorities that the number of cases taken on by the Bureau is an operational activity of GNECB that is not disclosed.
