Written answers

Peace Commissioners are appointed by the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, in accordance with section 88 of the Courts of Justice Act 1924. The appointment of a Peace Commissioner is entirely at the discretion of the Minister. The fact that an applicant or nominee may be suitable for appointment does not, in itself, provide any entitlement to appointment as a Peace Commissioner, other factors, such as the need for appointments in particular areas at a specific point in time, are taken into account.

While it would not be appropriate to comment on individual cases, I can confirm to the Deputy that this matter is currently under consideration and that my Department will be in contact with the individual concerned in the near future.
