The information requested by the Deputy is currently being collated and will be forwarded to the Deputy when it is available.

The following deferred reply was received under Standing Orders.
The amount spent on legal fees for the years 2020 to 2025 in my Department is provided in the table below.
*These figures are provided from the Department’s current file records as of 11th February, 2026 and contains the most current and up to date information that is available to us.
The table provides a single figure for each year, including all costs incurred by the State Claims Agency and defrayed by the Department in managing and settling proceedings within the remit of the Agency; all payments made directly by the Department, either to settle individual claims upon the advice of the Office of the Attorney General or to comply with Court orders; and other incidental legal expenses. In relation to litigation managed by the Chief State Solicitor’s Office (“the CSSO”) and the Office of the Attorney General, the CSSO is responsible for managing the costs of counsel or solicitors acting for the Minister; those costs do not come out of the Department’s budget.
