188. Deputy David Cullinane asked the Minister for Health the contingency plan and guidance in place and issued by the HSE in response to the shortages of certain salbutamol products; the list of salbutamol products which are approved for reimbursement; whether each of these is in stock; the availability of substitute products for which a reimbursement price has not been agreed but which have been identified as an approved substitute during a shortage of reimbursable products; if during shortages, there is a mechanism for patients to access products outside of the list of reimbursable products where they have a clinical and economic need; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As this is a service matter and under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for decisions on the pricing and reimbursement of medicines and medical devices, this question has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
