The Secretary General was appointed to the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science in September 2023. The role is remunerated in accordance with the PPC Secretary General, Level III pay scale, as set by the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation and applied consistently across the Civil Service.

The current tenure of the Secretary General is in line with the standard seven-year term provided for under the Public Service Management Act 1997.

The Department does not have any Deputy Secretary General posts.

In relation to the revision of remuneration arrangements, Section 17 of the 1956 Civil Service Regulation Act provides that this a matter for the Minster of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation.
