I propose to take Questions Nos. 692, 693 and 694 together.

My Department provides significant funding to the rural water sector under the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme (MARWP), which includes Gaeltacht areas, primarily to support group water schemes and other projects that improve and enhance rural water infrastructure. Funding is allocated to local authorities, which are responsible for managing and delivering individual projects.

In the current cycle of the MARWP, covering the years 2024–2026, a minimum threshold of 25 households applies for funding extensions of the public water network to existing houses. This requirement applies to ensure that projects are technically feasible, economically viable, and provide value for money in the use of public funds.

This threshold is an eligibility criterion of the Programme and does not constitute a general policy of Uisce Éireann in respect of new connections. At present, there are no plans to review or change the 25-house threshold.

With regard to the location referenced, no application for funding was received under the MARWP 2024–2026 cycle.

Applications will be invited mid-year under the next cycle of capital funding of the Programme, and the terms and conditions of the funding measures will be reviewed in advance of that launch.

In addition, a range of supports is available to rural households, including private well grants, which can help improve and secure safe, reliable water supplies.
