As advised in my response to Parliamentary Question No. 9 of 28 January 2026, it is my understanding the Irish Coast Guard was made aware of a potential oil pollution incident on Killiney Beach on December 30th 2025. I understand the member of the public was directed to engage with Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, as the relevant authority, who subsequently responded to the incident in accordance with its own pollution emergency (spill contingency) plan, as provided for in the National Maritime Oil/HNS Spill Contingency Plan.

Responsibility for responding to oil pollution incidents on land, such as beaches, is a matter for the relevant authorities, in this instance Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. It is a matter for the County Council to manage the pollution response, including engagement with relevant state services as appropriate.
