The Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) has confirmed that, since the announcement of the macroprudential measures for property funds in November 2022, the CBI has had some bilateral engagement with other EU national competent authorities (NCAs) to establish whether exposure to Irish property assets, from funds domiciled in these jurisdictions has increased. The CBI has also presented at various European fora on the macroprudential measures both prior to their announcement and at different stages over the current implementation period. However, the CBI has advised my officials that, for reasons of confidentiality, they cannot provide details of or comment on individual engagements.
As the Deputy is aware, the CBI is an independent regulator in relation to the execution of its operational and regulatory functions. As such, questions relating to engagements between the CBI and specific NCAs should be directed to the CBI.
