My Department has commenced the necessary preparatory work for the development of the primary legislation that will integrate Children's Health Ireland into the Health Service Executive. The Paediatric Governance Legislation Unit has primary responsibility for the development of this legislation, in coordination with other units in my Department and other key stakeholders.

I will seek formal Government approval of this policy and for the drafting of a General Scheme for this legislation. My Department will then continue the necessary coordination with key stakeholders while drafting of the General Scheme is underway.

The completed General Scheme and Regulatory Impact Assessment will be brought to Government for approval in the coming months. The necessary legislation will then be drafted in coordination of the Office of Parliamentary Counsel, with the publication and progression of the Bill intended to take place as early as possible throughout 2027.
